The Ultimate Resume Writing Guide for Indian Professionals

Format Matters

Use a clean, single-column format. Avoid fancy designs, tables, or images — most companies use ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) that can't parse complex layouts. Stick to PDF format unless specifically asked for Word.

Keep It to 1-2 Pages

For 0-5 years experience: 1 page. For 5-15 years: 2 pages maximum. No one reads a 4-page resume. Be concise and relevant.

Lead with a Professional Summary

Replace the outdated "Objective" section with a 2-3 line professional summary. Example: "Results-driven production manager with 6+ years in corrugated packaging operations. Proven track record of reducing wastage by 18% and improving throughput by 25%."

Quantify Your Achievements

Instead of "Managed a team," write "Led a team of 15 engineers, delivering 3 major projects on time." Numbers make your impact measurable and credible.

Tailor for Each Application

Don't send the same resume everywhere. Highlight the skills and experience most relevant to the specific job you're applying for. Mirror keywords from the job description.

Education Section

List your highest qualification first. Include the institution name, degree, year of passing, and percentage/CGPA if it's above average. For experienced professionals, education moves to the bottom.

Skills Section

List 6-10 relevant skills. Mix technical skills (Java, SAP, AutoCAD) with soft skills (team leadership, stakeholder management). Avoid generic skills like "hard-working" or "team player."

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Spelling and grammar errors — proofread twice
  • Using a personal email like coolboy99@gmail.com — create a professional one
  • Including a photo (not required in India unless specifically asked)
  • Listing every job duty instead of achievements
  • Gaps in employment without explanation
