Top 10 Interview Tips for Freshers in 2026

Sumi Services Team·

1. Research the Company

Before walking into any interview, spend 20-30 minutes on the company's website, LinkedIn page, and recent news. Understanding their business, culture, and recent achievements shows genuine interest.

2. Prepare Your Introduction

Your "Tell me about yourself" answer should be a 60-second pitch covering your education, key skills, and what excites you about this role. Practice it until it feels natural, not rehearsed.

3. Dress Appropriately

When in doubt, dress one level above the company's dress code. For corporate roles, a formal shirt and trousers work. For startups, smart casuals are acceptable. Always be neat and presentable.

4. Arrive 15 Minutes Early

Arriving early shows punctuality and gives you time to settle your nerves. For virtual interviews, test your internet, camera, and microphone 30 minutes before.

5. Bring Extra Copies of Your Resume

Even if you've emailed it, bring 3-4 printed copies. It shows preparedness and the interviewer may not have a copy handy.

6. Use the STAR Method for Answers

For behavioral questions, structure your answers using Situation, Task, Action, Result. This keeps your answers focused and impactful.

7. Ask Thoughtful Questions

When they ask "Do you have any questions?", always say yes. Ask about the team structure, growth opportunities, or current projects. Avoid asking about salary in the first round.

8. Be Honest About What You Don't Know

If you don't know the answer to a technical question, say so honestly. Add what you'd do to find the answer. Interviewers value honesty over bluffing.

9. Follow Up with a Thank You

Send a brief thank-you email within 24 hours. Mention something specific from the conversation to make it personal.

10. Don't Get Discouraged by Rejections

Every interview is a learning experience. Ask for feedback when possible, and keep refining your approach. The right opportunity will come.
